Notes Will Vincent rebuilds Dynaco ST-70 amps. This amp is badged "Dyna Super 70 by Will Vincent" and "Triode Dyna by Will Vincent." He strips down his amps and powder coats the chassis and transformer bells. Powder coating is an electrostatic process that binds a pigment powder to the metal and is then baked on, producing a much thicker, much more durable finish than conventional paints. The faceplate of the amp, also powder coated, is made from 3/16-inch or ¼-inch-thick aluminum.

There is an on/off switch on the front of the amp. Mounted in the center of the faceplate is an LED power-on indicator lamp. On the rear of the amp are a pair of American-made, military-spec H.H.Smith speaker-cable binding post with silver contacts, two gold-plated-brass RCA terminals and an IED connector for using your favorite power cable. All fasteners on the amp’s exterior are Allen head machine screws.

Teflon coated silver wire is used for all the internal wiring, laced and secured military style. No hodgepodge tangle of old wires in these amps. Coupling caps are Infinicaps and the amps are star grounded.

The USA-made driver board uses two New Old Stock 7199 tubes. Will has tested some of the other Dyna 70 driver boards on the market and feels that the 7199 tube is superior. Will says, “The 7199 is a pentode/triode tube designed exclusively for audio use with a life expectancy of 5000 hours. They are no longer made, but if you ever need a replacement, and you probably won’t, there’s always at least a half a hundred of the tubes listed.” The amp is supplied with a military-grade 5R4 rectifier tube.

You have a choice of output tubes: KT-66, EL34, or Russian Military 6L6. Will can wire your amp to operated in triode for 22 watts per channel or Ultra linear for 35 watts per channel. His opinion is that while triode operation offers less output wattage, the mid-range detail is slightly better. This information adapted from listing on Audiogon by Kolledog.
